The Livestrong LS8.0E Elliptical Machine -
Rated Best Buy
The Livestrong LS8.0E elliptical machine is built with many of
the same specs and features found on the LS10.0E including a 20” stride length.
It Starts With a Superior Frame
The 192-lb frame on the elliptical trainer features the highly touted SIXstar
Certification™ also found on popular Horizon Fitness machines (another Johnson
Tech company). This new concept is a combination of six important points in the
design and construction of the Livestrong LS8.0E machine to provide a natural
elliptical feel.
The SIXstar technology focuses on placing the pedals closer together to
eliminate stress on the hips, providing a flatter ellipse path to mimic a
natural walking motion, positioning the handlebars and pedals to provide an
upright body alignment, using a large flywheel (23 lbs) and drive pulley ratio
for the smoothest glide possible, and it features a lower profile so the user
can easily step on and off the machine. Livestrong Elliptical Machines - Factory Direct Other features of the Livestrong LS8.0E include 5 levels of adjustable manual
incline, 16 levels of resistance, 9 workout programs, a CoolFit™ fitness fan
on
the console, and contact heart rate grips on the handlebars.
Livestrong offers lifetime frame and brake coverage, but only a short 1-year
warranty on parts and in-home service. That short duration is fairly standard
for a $799 elliptical trainer and helps to keep the initial price down. You can
purchase an additional 2-year service plan at check out for just $109.

A Good Buy on an Affordable Trainer
While online reviews of the Livestrong LS8.0E elliptical machine give it
favorable marks for being smooth and quiet with an excellent “feel,” the only
question that remains is durability. Since the design is relatively new, we have
yet to hear from people who have owned it for 2 years to give potential buyers
some idea of the long-term reliability and how well it holds up.
Livestrong had a few technical issues when they launched the new line of
ellipticals in the summer of 2009, which is why you may come across a few bad
reviews dated from 2010 or earlier. Those problems have been corrected and the
trainers made in 2011 and beyond should give you years of good use.
We like the Livestrong LS8.0E elliptical machine enough to call it a Good Buy at
$799, especially when compared to 120-lb models, this 192-lb frame is
head-and-shoulders above the pack in terms of stability. If you intend to sign
up for an extended warranty, you should consider upgrading to the LS10.0E at
$999 since it has an automatic incline and includes a standard 3-year warranty.
